Top Magazine Subscriptions
Although print subscriptions for magazines are on the decline as the digital world continues to usher in the age of magazine subscriptions via websites and applications, there are still some UK magazines that are ruling the marketplace. There are even some popular magazine titles that are still growing year on year in sales despite the decline in the market suggesting that there is a place for print publications if the material inside of them is appealing enough.
Over 2010 the reigning giant in magazine sales was TV Choice, which saw their sales increase of almost 5% over the two quarters proving that regardless of where the magazine industry goes those who watch television will always want to continue to look up their listings in the guide. Aptly, the second magazine in the UK in terms of sales was What’s On TV followed by Radio Times. In forth and fifth magazines were the gossip rages Take A Break and Saga Machine.
Of course, the top gossip rag made an appearance in ninth place although OK! Magazine took a huge drop as the economy seemed to reduce people’s need for printed gossip falling several spots reporting a sales drop of over 17%. Surprisingly, in sixth and seventh place beating the gossip journal were lesser known but apparently popular New! and Closer magazine.
Rounding out the list taking spots eight and ten were more traditional magazines that likely hold a close stronghold on the group of twenties and thirties women as Glamour and Good Housekeeping both finished off last year with high sales figures. Although Glamour dropped slightly, for the year in which many mags went out of print, three percent is hardly noticeable for one of the most notable magazines on the market.
