The Heart of England Forest Project is the trading name of the Forest of Dennis Charity. The Forest of Dennis was formed in 2001 to plant a large forest for the enjoyment of the public, and given charity status in 2003.
Its aim is to "plant and preserve a large native forest in the heart of England".
The Project hopes to plant 12,000 hectares (30,000 acres) of new forest over the coming years. When complete, it will represent the largest forest in England. This year in excess of 100 hectares of new trees is expected to be planted (making the Project the largest planter of trees in England). We expect this figure to increase year on year.
As the forest is not for commercial gain, it is planted differently from many other forest projects. Only native broadleaf trees are planted and these are planted randomly so that the woodlands look natural - totally unlike regularly spaced commercial planting. Trees are planted far less densely than commercial forestry too, creating a better environment for wildlife. Less dense planting, and the provision of open spaces, also creates a forest which is more enjoyable for human visitors.
As a charity, the Forest's activities and progress are dependent on donations from companies and individuals. If you would like information about the Forest or to sponsor tree planting, you can find out more here.
OxTreeGen was created to relate to all those millions of people and companies that want to reduce their carbon footprint but don't want to be preached to or given a doomsday scenario. OxTreeGen sell products and services that help the planet breathe but also engage people on the serious subject of climate change in a fun and quirky way.
